Home Sweet Home
By David Edlund
The bible speaks of a land that was promised to Abraham and his descendant’s. The land called Israel today is believed to be the land that was promised to Abraham. Just how much land is included in this promise and what other things are included in the promise do you know? The city of Jerusalem is a very important city in this land promised. The city has been called the golden city and the city of peace. Although Jerusalem’s long history reveals little peace and many troubles. Jerusalem at one time was a great city with great wealth and riches. There were times when this land promised was truly a land of milk and honey. When Israel obeyed God’s commandments they received great blessings. When they disobeyed God they received curses and much trouble. When King David’s son Solomon became king the land promised was a land filled with wealth and riches. God gave Solomon great wisdom and discernment more than any other man and great wealth. Kings and leaders of other nations came to Solomon to hear the wisdom and see the riches that God had given to him. You can read more of the story in these scriptures. (1kings 3:11-14) and (1kings 4:29-34) also read (1kings10:14-25). This promise land, the land of Israel is destined to be much greater that it was under King Solomon. Someday in the future Jerusalem will be called the city of peace and all the land of Israel will be given great blessings with the abundance of peace and no one will ever cause them trouble again. "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the lepord shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra's hole, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper's den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea." (Isa. 11:6-9 NKJV) But today this land promised does not have these great blessings nor does it have peace and security. They are fighting with the Palestinians and most Arab nations want to see them destroyed. The city of Jerusalem and this Promised Land, the land of Israel will play a very important part in the future of world events. I believe many people will be surprised at what the future holds for this land God promised to Abraham and his descendants. Someday in the future Israel will return to the land God promised to them and they will dwell in peace just as it is written. It will truly be “Home Sweet Home” for those people.
